๐โโ๏ธ๐ First 5 Minutes ep.3: Linear
Linear's welcome wizard is 7 steps. Pick a theme, try the command menu, connect GitHub, invite teammates, subscribe to updates.
Smooth. Polished. And not a single question about who I am or how I'll use the product.
Meanwhile, buried inside the first pre-populated issue, below a welcome video, there's a link. "Choose your setup guide based on your company stage." Small teams. Mid-size. Scaling companies.
I clicked Small teams. It took me to a docs page with genuinely great advice. Start with Issues immediately, skip Projects for now. Specific triggers for when to upgrade. When the Slack-to-issues integration becomes worth it.
That was my aha moment. And I found it by accident, halfway down a docs page, after leaving the product entirely.
The wizard spent its steps on a color theme and a changelog subscription. The one question that would've actually changed my experience was sitting in the knowledge base hoping I'd find it.
Linear has all the right content. It just doesn't know it's onboarding.
